Showing 25 text responses

Often, over email and Skype

2/3/2012 4:19 PMView Responses

I dont check back often enough. Maybe 1-2 friend sper week . very important that i maintain those friendships because those people know me best.

1/31/2012 10:51 PMView Responses

Multiple times per month. Very important. Friendships are one of the great things in life.

1/31/2012 2:46 PMView Responses

yes – but only with close friends.. most of my travel plans revolve around meeting up with friends or going on trips with friends.

1/31/2012 1:01 PMView Responses

1/30/2012 9:38 PMView Responses

occasionally, 3-4 per year. best 10 friends I would say

1/30/2012 9:36 PMView Responses

Depends on the friendship.. some of them every other week, others every month, others every year. I think you form very different friendships and some can survive very little communication but others can’t

1/30/2012 9:21 PMView Responses

Not often enough

1/30/2012 9:17 PMView Responses

Frequently, yes.

1/30/2012 9:04 PMView Responses

Monthly. It’s important to me to keep the connection and to maintain my network of friends and colleagues in the Middle East. Apart from the friendship aspect, this network is invaluable if I decide to pursue my career in MENA

1/30/2012 9:00 PMView Responses

I keep in touch regularly with close friends from college and my previous jobs….for others, I sometimes check their facebook page if their status pops up on my newsfeed. It is probably more important to me to maintain a broad professional network….i.e. through LinkedIn.

1/30/2012 8:56 PMView Responses

Not that important…I stay pretty close and in contact with all of my friends on a regular basis.

1/30/2012 8:54 PMView Responses

Not very often

1/30/2012 8:33 PMView Responses

Showing 26 text responses

Yes and yes, particularly since it seems advantageous to have local advice

2/3/2012 4:19 PMView Responses

Yes, yes i would use a website because i do not know the region at all

1/31/2012 10:51 PMView Responses

Yes I have. Something like TripAdvisor that is tailored to the middle east would be helpful, because special local knowledge would be helpful.

1/31/2012 2:46 PMView Responses

yes; and maybe

1/31/2012 1:43 PMView Responses

if it were to just book my flight and hotel then no, but if i am able to put together an itinerary better than a travel agent, based on local and other traveler’s experiences, in addition top flight and hotel deals, then yes.

I am from the Middle East, hence I travel there frequently. I currently prefer dealing with my travel agent for travel arrangements as they take care of the complete package with a single e-mail (this includes flights, pick up, hotel booking and Visa arrangements on very short notice, for example, obtaining UAE Visa in 2 working days although it usually takes longer that if done through typical channels)

I’d like to travel to Middle-East for a holiday. Sure, why not, I would give the website a try.

This page is for the interview feedback that we have received from several interviewees

–This is a verbatim outline of the interviews we have conducted this week, divided between the interviewees.

Manh-Hung:

  • Talked to 3 people in Vietnam, 1 from China, 1 from Middle East
  • Interviewee: go to Stanford
  • Liked the idea of touching base with friends, especially before travel
  • Liked the idea of sharing photos post-trip
  • Price is still the selling point.

Hassan:

  • Jessica, Lebanese girl just graduated from GSB
  • Travels a lot to middle-east
  • Wasn’t so sure about the social aspect of the travel (significant other is the most important)
  • Her most important factor is the price
  • Parents wouldn’t trust online, so parents book her flights for her through an agent
  • Spoke to Mohammad Al-Saddi
  • He liked the idea, especially the social aspect. Would be more price-sensitive
  • Spoke to an American: (with respect to social aspect)
  • Liked the itinerary/social aspect of the idea (he’s traveling to the middle-east with a GSB group of people)
  • So far no one has indicated that they wouldn’t use the system we have proposed

Megh:

  • Spoke to Ali (Iran) and Sammy (Syria)
  • The things that stood out was that nobody was interested in the Expedia and Jetsetter model (Kayak etc), and they trust these sites already to do their function
  • The main component they care about is price
  • In groups, the flight is not very important, but it’s ESSENTIAL that they stay in the same hotel (willing to pay a premium 20-30%) to stay with friends
  • The primary objective is to stay with friends
  • Want to maximize the number of events that I am attending per the price I am making (therefore a trip that has a busier itinerary that maximizes my activities is ideal)
  • Pictures: 4 people go on a trip, 4 people upload separate sets of photos (now we have a collection of photos, with no central place for all of them). We could create a staging area where you select the pictures we want to share from the trip.
  • Concern about hotels not having an online presence: (travel agents should be our partners)
  • Sammy said that when he takes trips with friends, convenience trumps price

Elika:

  • Spoke to my sister-she just came back from Paris/London. Before she visits a city, she does a week’s worth of research to find the “happening” places that she should visit
    • Sources: Conde Nast, Book published by Louis Vuitton on city destinations (updated every few years)
    • References her friends on where they have visited
    • Narrows list of destination as the “best” and most optimal fun places
    • Her life would be much easier if she had a source that she trusted that made suggestions to her on where she should go
